Professional Bio

After completing my Bachelor’s in English Literature, with minors in Communications and Mythology, from Florida State University, it hit me—for the first time in my life, I had no idea what happened next. A lifelong learner, with a self-admitted proclivity toward bingeing new knowledge and experiences, furthering my education was always in the cards—but WHAT did I want to be when I grew up?! I grappled with the finality of that choice (and - rather begrudgingly - accepted the interesting timing I’d chosen to pose it to myself), stumbled into the world of teaching by chance, and did my best to believe it would somehow work itself out.

In searching for a way to marry my strengths with programs for which I’d taken the adequate number of prerequisites, I landed on technical communication—a term I saw for the first time while reading the graduate program brochure. Though I may have initially happened upon it, the meeting was fated; the more I learned about the industry, the more appealing it became. The variety in application and practice, diversity of products and industries it touches, wide spectrum of roles it enables one to fulfill—that dynamic fluidity was the initial allure of technical communication—and it fuels my passion for the industry still today. After receiving my M.A., I began work as a Technical Writer and Instructional Designer.

On a personal level, I am passionate about understanding and relating to people of all sorts and truly believe that relationships are what life is all about. Building connection comes easily for me, to which I’d credit my innate curiosity and genuine interest in the lives of others. This world is a fascinating place, full of the most wonderfully compelling people and things—I’d learn it all if I could.

In my professional sphere, as well as my everyday life, I seek out experiences that make me feel something. When I am passionate about a project, I bring a fire to the table that could (but probably wouldn’t) ignite even the most expert stop-drop-and-roller. When prompted, this intensity affords me incredible focus and enables me to work doggedly toward a goal. Luckily, I’ve been able to channel work ethic and integrity—I am driven to succeed, but also to do things the “right” way.

In my work, I enjoy having a hand in the creation of a product that keeps the end-user at its core. Specifically, I have great interest in blending innovative technologies, the expertise of those that develop them, and learning theory, providing the end-user an opportunity that combines business and pleasure. I’m especially enthused when there’s a chance to incorporate my own writing, strategy, and creativity within the design process, as I believe such attention to detail results in a more comprehensive, effective, and enjoyable product.

In my spare time, I can often be found reading historical novels, furiously hammering out personal prose in my Notes app, house projects that allow me access to previously-untouched power tools, and caring for the zoo of lost-boy refugees I have inadvertently acquired (one foster dog, 3 cats, 4 fish, 3 hermit crabs, and one veiled chameleon - at least, that’s the count today). I love bringing people together, facilitating discussion amongst a diverse set of friends, and going uncomfortably over-the-top hosting any number of annual themed dinner parties and gatherings.

In short, life is about people. Meeting them, connecting with them, and allowing for the mutually-beneficial perspectives we exchange—whether that be found in conversation with an old friend, a newly-introduced acquaintance, or the stranger you find yourself behind while waiting to pay for the Watermelon Sour Patch bag you swerved across two lanes of traffic attempting to procure. Hey - life is meant to be lived, right?!

Creative Bio

Outside of technical work, I write reflective nonfiction exploring memory, time, and the meaning we create from everyday experiences. My style leans lyrical and contemplative, with pieces suited for essays, collections, and personal narratives. I also offer freelance editing services, helping authors and professionals refine their voice, structure, and clarity.
